Stop. Just stop. If I have to explain to one more person how ridiculous it is to compare the price of gas in Europe to the price of gas in America, I am going to start screaming uncontrollably.
See the thing is, gas has always been that expensive in Europe. Their
economy is structured for expensive gas. They pay more for goods. They
drive less. They have higher wages. They have a working public transit
system. They shop locally.
The United States, not so much. So when the price of gas doubles in a couple of years, then no, we can't keep up. We can't afford to pay much more for goods. Our wages didn't increase. We have fewer local options. We've torn out our rail systems.
The two things are not comparable. So stop doing it.
